Show Notes
Rob here again and today I really want to talk about backups and backups for your website again. And I know. I’ve talked about this several times on this podcast and on my blog, and all my business site and with clients, but we need to have the conversation. The reality of it all is most people don’t really. Have the back. Yep. Uh-huh. Well, my web host takes backups for me. Huh. I have a backup plugin. OK, that’s nice. Have you ever tested to make sure that these backups you can restore? And in 99% of the cases, the answer to that. Question is no. People haven’t checked their backups, so here’s a couple of things. We need to talk about. Number one, don’t rely on your web host for backups. You should have one at the site level at all cuts. Go get a backup plugin. Updraft plus is free. I like solid backup which is the old backup buddy. And there’s a number of other all-in-one migration and so. On so get a backup. Keep those backups off site on a Google Drive somewhere so you’ve got them away from your computer. So that’s the other key. And make sure every so often you test those backups to run to a test domain. And restore to a test domain to make sure you restore work properly. If you can do that, then you have a backup that works, folks. Strategy at our agency, we back up most websites three times. Week. We do them actually every day with the backup plug in and at the host, but we save them offline three times a week. And we also for some mission critical sites, we do them every day. So you have to decide how much you can afford to lose, not to permits how often needed to back up that determines how often you need to offload that back up to. A third party store. Those are just some quick thoughts today. Please, please, please back up your website, make sure you can restore it and without doing a restore you really don’t have a a backup what you have. Is all but great. Rob Karen’s chief digital strategist at sending digital marketing, have a great day. Bye bye for now.
