Show Notes

As a bit of an intro to this episode, today I hope you noticed the shortened intro music. I felt running Intro music for 37 seconds it was a little long. I have now shortened it a bit.

I am still working on all the older show notes. Hopefully time permitting they will be done soon. I will update you as soon as possible.

In other show notes wait and listen for an amazing interview which will be released this Saturday as a special on copywriting. I am sure you will not want to miss this one as it comes with a special offer. Now on to today’s show.

Hi All. I am Rob Cairns the CEO/Chief Creator of Amazing Ideas at . I my last podcast I talked about some life changing events that have shaped my life. Today I want to expand on one of them.

In my last episode, one of the things I talked about was I worked really hard for a large Toronto Hospital. I worked many weeks of 75 plus hours and my employer did not appreciate it. I was living to work.

The reality at the time was that I was working lots and looking after my son as a single Dad. I was lucky that I had the help of my parents. I worked a lot and frankly did not have much time for anything. I had no time for a relationship, friends, life or anything else. It actually got to the point where it really hurt.

I would come home exhausted, spend time with my son and crash. This was an ongoing process. I was really just existing and working way too hard.

Don’t get me wrong, hard work is in my blood but this was ridiculous. I was really just existing.

When I was let go on March 27. 2010 I felt like a big burden was lifted off my shoulders. I was out of the mess and I could now take some time for me and my family. It was a huge sigh of relief.

At this time I was helping my Dad who was dealing with pancreatic cancer. I was able to spend time with him and my family. I knew I was going to lose him but I was able to be there for him.

The day after Father’s Day in 2010 my Dad entered the hospital for the last time. I was at his bedside 8 hours a day 7 days a week till he passed away on July 8th. It was hard but this was my father and this was more important than anything.

Fast forward to today. I am married. I run an agency. I work some weekends but if I do I take another day off during the week. When my wife Jill comes home from work I generally stop what I am doing. There is no point in being in a relationship and marriage if you do not spend time with that person.

Today I have more time for my friends and my family. My life today is much more enjoyable then it was 9 years ago. This is a real good thing.

I am enjoying my life much more these days. Life is much better and I am working to live.

I am at the point where I even chose which clients I want and which ones  I do not want. I want to work in partnerships not a dictatorship. This just does not work for me. Again it is all about balance.

This entire discussion is about work/life balance. Try some of these ideas out and your life will get much better. Try them today.

As always thanks for listening and I love you all.
