Show Notes

Hey everybody, Rob here again.

So this is a very special episode 250.

And I want to start by a shout out to a numerous pile of people.

People like Bob Dunn, Todd Jones, Nathan Wrigley.

Matt Mederos and it goes on and on and on with the number of guests have had over the last 250 episodes. I want to thank each one of you of being part of it for offering advice, being helpful.

To the podcast.

It’s all been so much appreciated.

So now I.

Want to jump into a bit of a topic that’s ruled?

Its ugly head again.

And that’s the WordPress community.

I really care about this community and have for a long time.

One of the reasons I Co.

Manage a LinkedIn group with Courtney Robertson is I care what happens.

It matters to me.

Now, I’m not always happy about everything that happens in our community.

But frankly, we can turn around and.

Change those things by being productive.

And I don’t.

Productive getting on Twitter and saying I hate WordPress.

On the other hand, you’re making your money with WordPress.

So if you hate WordPress so much.

I’m gonna be really pointing, Franklin pointed.

Get out of it.

Go away, there’s other.

See a message there’s Drupal there’s two more you can go and become a square space developer and DevOps sites for square space and so on.

If WordPress is so much not your thing, time to move on go.

And by the way, don’t let the door hit you on their way out.

I’m so tired of people bashing WordPress and then that’s how they make their money.

I can never understand IT support the product, make it better.

Make some constructive suggestions how to make it better.

And so on.

So that’s a bit of a rant and kind of how I feel.

Support the people in our community because it’s pretty diverse and it’s getting even better.

So helped him out.

Helped people with the problem jump in on a Twitter thread.

Jump in on link group.

And so on and so forth.

That’s the key.

To WordPress and the strength of WordPress.

I also wanna, you know, kind of with this episode 250. I wanna jump in on a.

Couple of other things.

There’s a time.

To random rave about technology.

At the time that this record, we just went through one of the nation’s biggest.

Internet outages we’ve ever had.

Rogers Communications was down.

Cell phones, Internet and as a result, Ignite TV which is Internet based.

For almost 24 hours on Friday.

People are up in arms and screaming.

I understand people want their services.

I really get it.

I also understand technology fails averton technology for over 30 years.

And it happens.

And we need not.

To jump to conjectural opinions.

By that, I mean assuming stuff without the facts behind us.

So for that I mean.

One of the things that happened with Rogers outage was.

People were.

Complaining and saying oh the bank system got hacked and interact, got hacked and so on.

The reality is those systems in getting hacked what happened was the connectivity to those systems went down.

That’s the reality of working in tech tech fails and it when it fails, it fails awfully.

Think about.

What’s going on?

In the world and what are we all did without this technology?

I can remember as a kid going to high school and there being a painful.

Remember those in the front of your school.

And taking a quarter to school to call home after a sporting event or practice to get my parents to come get me.

That’s how we function.

We didn’t have cell phone strapped or hip.

Cable TV went down and that was in its infancy.

We went and did something else or watched over the air TV.

Why couldn’t you do this now?

Do people not know how to amuse themselves and deal with life?

Gotta wonder sometimes.

And it’s part of the problem.

So next time we have an outage, take a chill pill.

And then the third subject I wanted to sort of touch on in this episode 250 was.

My dad.

Friday was the 12th anniversary that we asked my father.

And, uh, I did a lot of reflecting on Friday.

I know I get teary eyed when I talk about it, ’cause I miss him and I miss him every day.

And part of the problem is.

I’ve been through a.

Lot in the last couple years.

And my dad would have been somebody who would have turned 2.

And said, give me some advice, give me some help.

I can’t do that anymore.

And more often than not, would I miss it’s funny when we lived apart, I called my dad after a sporting event and my mum would say.

Why didn’t you just watch the event together?

You guys talk after the event because that’s what we did.

We’d spend an hour.

Seamlessly talking about a ball game or a hockey game.

Or something that we watched.

We did that a lot.

And I miss.

And those who have been long term listeners of this podcast know it’s dedicated to my father.

So I want to say is I love you Dad.

You inspire.

Me every day.

And that matters.

So that’s kind of the three things I wanted to talk about today.

The WordPress community.

The Rogers outage.

And certainly last, but definitely not least, my father.

Just two quick.

You guys have a great day everybody.

Love y’all be good to each other.
