Show Notes

Hello and welcome to the show!

Today, we’re talking about domains and some crucial tips for registering and protecting your domain name.

Domain Name Best Practices

  • Never accept a free domain. If you take a free domain from your web host, they will own it, not you. It’s essential that your business maintains full control.
  • Register your own domain. Don’t let your web designer or IT person register the domain for you. You need to be the one in control.
  • Separate your hosting and registration. It’s a bad idea to host your website and register your domain with the same company. It can get very complicated if something goes wrong. Keep them separate to avoid potential issues.
  • Track your renewal dates. Set a reminder on your calendar for about 45 days before the renewal date. This gives you time to turn off auto-renewal if you’re no longer using the domain.
  • Hide your WHOIS information. This prevents spammers from easily finding your name, address, and phone number.

Use two-factor authentication. Enable two-factor authentication with your domain provider to add an extra layer of security to your account.
