Lessons from 58 Years: A Transparent Look at Life and Business

Join Rob as he gets transparent about the personal and professional lessons he’s learned over the past 58 years. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all guide, but a genuine look at what has worked for him, from prioritizing health to changing his approach to relationships.

Mental and Physical Health are Everything

  • Prioritize your mental health: As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to burn out. Take care of your brain, the most important organ. Consider speaking with a therapist, either in-person or online. Rob recommends Better Help as an option and suggests listening to the Dr. John Delony podcast on the Ramsey Network.
  • Couple’s therapy can make a difference: Rob shares how starting therapy with his partner, Tis, has had a huge positive impact on their relationship.
  • Don’t ignore your body: After a health scare that landed him in the ICU, Rob now sees multiple doctors regularly, including a family doctor, respirologist, endocrinologist, and an eye doctor.
  • Exercise as a two-for-one: Rob suggests combining physical and mental health care through exercise. A simple walk for an hour can clear your head and make you feel much better.

Attitude and Relationships

  • Choose constructive conversations over arguments: Rob has learned to let go of the need to be “right.” He’s open to discussions where everyone can learn but will disengage from conversations that are all about winning an argument.
  • Accept people for who they are: Just as you want to be accepted, extend that same grace to others. It will make your life much better.
  • “House clean” your life: Rob has intentionally removed toxic influences, including negative friends, family members, and even clients who are bad for his mental space. He emphasizes the importance of spending time with people who share your values and who matter to you.

Work and Values

  • Don’t kill yourself working: Rob shares a past experience of working 60-65 hours a week in healthcare, only to feel disposable and unappreciated. He argues that being appreciated matters more than the money.
  • Appreciation over money: For Rob, the true reward isn’t the paycheck but feeling valued for his efforts.

Looking Ahead

Rob thanks his listeners for their support over the last five and a half years and teases a special 600th episode coming soon.
