Episode 31: How to Protect your Relationships on the Internet

Today I want to talk about something really important. It’s about being a business owner and protecting yourself on the internet. Reality is that many people go at you just because you’re successful or because of who you’re connected to. Let me give you a few examples of where this has come into play for me recently on more than one occasion, number one, I’m connected to many members of Toronto Police. Every so often I’ll make comments on social media and the Trump plus trolls will come out in droves. They will criticize you just because you tweeted Trump please for the sake of it, they really have too much time on their hands, they have nothing of value to add to the conversation. Number two, recently someone stole my profile image on Facebook has started impersonating me and even created a duplicate profile. Number three, someone posted defamatory reviews on my Google My Business Page. Just the reason I decided to share this information that’s really important with you in the first place. Number four, spam comments and pass them my business. Number five, not so nice comments on other websites. We all know you can go to a lawyer for anything that is defamatory. But that does not solve the issues in the short term or anything that can’t be resolved by non legal meet. The first suggestion is you didn’t take your name, and any employees names and any key client names and create a Google Alert for the name website in business. Google AdWords is a free service, which Google has to notify you when certain keywords come up in search results. The second is never been your enemies and keep an eye on them. If you ban them, then you cannot see what they’re saying about you and not in a position to react when things are said. I do this on social media sites especially Twitter all the time. On Twitter, I put my enemies in private Twitter list which I monitor in this situation of fake Facebook profile, report it and get your friend support as well. Facebook will take it down defamatory Google reviews are easy to deal with, report them nickel, they will eventually get to them. Right now unfortunately, there’s a backup due to ongoing issues with Google My Business pages. Any intern never leave a negative review on answer. answer them very professional. Do not get an income regardless of how upset you are. Also get your customers to post more positive resists, which will push the negative and defamatory reviews down in the list which will do two things. One, increase your Google review score and to push the reviews down in the list so it’s less likely to stand out. spam comments on your blog or easy delete them actually say my Terms of Service of my blog are most certain comments under certain terms. I believe strongly in transparency. That comments on other websites would address them quickly and professionally. When you become aware of them, do not just ignore them. Beyond answering reviews, do not engage in trolls on social media. It’s not worth going down this rabbit hole. I hope this techniques have helped you.
